Brand protection effectiveness
CEO Adam Moyer discovered the price of success when he started finding Knockaround counterfeits all over the internet. Determined to find the source of the problem, he traveled to China to go through their factories and decided to use legal means to protect the brand. Unfortunately, these measures proved to be insufficient while the number of counterfeits increased.
After detecting over 13,000 infringements online, Red Points contacted the Knockaround team with the answer to their problem. Our scalable, digital solution is able to not only automate counterfeit detection and removal, but also showed them the results through a web-based dashboard, making it easier for the team to validate infringements and keep track of removals.
In less than a year of using our service, 98% of Knockaround infringements have been completely eliminated from online marketplaces, preventing more consumers to be misled into buying knockoffs. On one hand, our solution has stopped counterfeiters from profiting over Knockaroundâs hard-earned work and on the other, it has prevented the brand from suffering a major blow to its reputation.
Inspired by his fatherâs worn-down sneakers, Ace Moyer decided to change the sunglass industry by offering affordable, yet long-lasting pairs to the public. The outcome? a successful brand that has since expanded into multiple frames, colors and different stylish accessories.

A pair of sunglasses is sat on, lost or broken every 14 minutes. Given the likelihood of sunglasses being lost or damaged, consumers are faced with the dilemma whether to buy high-quality or a more affordable product.
Back in 2005, while still an art student at the University of California, Ace Moyer decided to resolve this issue and launch a line of affordable, yet high-quality and stylish sunglasses. His inspiration? A pair of well-worn sneakers his father used to wear to mow the lawn. âHe called them his âknockaroundâ sneakersâyou could count on them, they were dependable, and you didnât care if they got beaten upâ.
The idea of inexpensive, practical sunglasses that combined the preppy East Coast style with the laid-back Californian vibe quickly charmed the public. Soon anyone from college students to celebrities could be seen rocking Knockarounds.
As the brand became more successful and started growing, so did the number of counterfeit Knockarounds throughout the internet. Even though the team was not sure about the amount of money they were losing to counterfeiters, they were aware of the damage this was causing to their brand in terms of image and credibility.
Counterfeits not only affect brands in terms of revenues, but also have a negative impact on their reputation. In the case of Knockaround, fakes are even dangerous because they risk the health of the consumers, who are unknowingly buying imitation products that generally lack any regulation and do not meet basic safety standards.
